Around 100 people have had their say on how money originally earmarked for a community swimming pool should now be spent.

Cumberland Council held a two-day consultation at the Maryport Town Hall this week to look at possible projects and to choose a favourite.

Strategic Advisor Projects Maryport Jeremy Hewitson said he was pleased with the number who had attended and also with the range of people.

"We had a few elderly residents but there were quite a number of younger people, too."

There was disappointment about the cancellation of the swimming pool, which was to have been built at the Wave Centre.

This was cancelled because of the council's executives' concern that running costs could run to £500,000 a year.

New proposals include adding another section to Clip-n-Climb more suitable for adults, an indoor adventure playground, and a space for children's parties.

Harbourside improvements could include transforming Shiver Me Timbers into an upgraded play area and creating flexible spaces for live music and events.

Plans for the prom could include a traditional beachside cafe and creating bike and skateboard areas.

Those unable to make it to the town hall this week have until next Friday, July 7, to have their say.
