A WORKINGTON high school has created a new garden, which will see produce harvested making its way onto the students' plates.
St Joseph’s Catholic High School’s new sensory and mindfulness garden is coming on apace this summer, with some of their year 9 gardening group harvesting their crops last week.
The crops that were harvested were then taken to the school canteen and made into a tasty bean dish which was served to their students at lunchtime.
A spokesman from St Joseph's Catholic High School said: "The sensory and mindfulness garden is a project designed and delivered by a dedicated pupil group.
"Some of the funding for the project came from the Centre for Leading Change who awarded the funding to the Year 9 group following a successful pitch to the team to support their garden area plan.
"The students have also been upcycling benches and garden furniture as well as building raised beds.
"During the whole school activities week next week they will be adding a tranquil classroom area to the garden where pupils can spend calm time away from the business of the school environment and adding a large wall mural and animal sculptures to the space.”
