COCKERMOUTH show returned at the weekend with a stellar display of livestock, wrestling and Cumbrian farming.

Held at Fitz Park in Cockermouth on Saturday, July 5, the annual livestock show celebrates all the best about Cumbrian agriculture, along with a whole host of family fun.

There was, as always, the full range of classes, including horse, cattle, sheep, goats, children’s pets and foxhounds.

As well as a packed industrial tent, there was show jumping, terrier racing, sheep shearing demonstrations, a vintage craft tent, Bygones Display tent and beer tent.

However, the poultry section did have to be cancelled this year due to the ongoing avian flu outbreak.

Speaking before the show, show secretary Norma Brayton said: “Particularly well supported this year is the young handlers.

“It’s great to see so many of the next generation getting involved. I was in the young farmers with some of their grandparents!”

As well as the livestock sections there was also a display from Cumbria Karate Club for the first time, as well as Cumberland wrestling and the showing of fox hounds.
