A GROUP of villagers from Flimby have worked tirelessly to create a stunning display of poppies to mark Remembrance Day.
The project has been ongoing for a number of years, with people from the St Nicholas Church congregation and wider Flimby community coming together to help produce the display outside of the church.
Ann Farish, church warden, said: "A huge thank you to all those who were involved in the Remembrance Service at St Nicholas Church, Flimby.
"From those who came to support, those who paraded, those who took part in the service and those who prepared and got the church ready and looking so magnificent, you all made the service and act of remembrance very special.
"A special thanks go to all those who have worked so tirelessly making poppies over the past few years and have been involved in producing the decorations for the church and churchyard.
"It really has been a great community effort and is growing year on year."
The group have used a variety of colours to remember different groups affected by the war:
- Red - the usual colour for Remembrance
- Purple - for all the animals in warfare
- White - for peace and conscientious objectors. They didn’t want to kill people but many were killed helping wounded soldiers.
- Yellow - this is for those who died as a result of working in munitions such as the eleven people killed in the explosion at the Dumps.
