WORKINGTON Christmas Festival and Light Switch On will take place this weekend, with so much to see and do in the town.

It will take place on Saturday, November 25 from 11am to 5.15pm in Workington town centre, and everyone is welcome to come along.

All activities are free, except for a small charge for Santa and the Fun Fair, and visitors can look forward to plenty of festive family entertainment, a Christmas market, and a day of live music and performances.

The Mayor of Workington will start proceedings at 11am from the main stage, located outside Bensons for Beds and The Entertainer.

Throughout the day, a selection of live acts will perform to get everyone in the Christmas mood, including local poet John Hastings, Somethin’ Brewin’, Shelbie McAllister, Miss Pearl, Workington Academy Performing Arts, Razzmataz, Workington & District Amateur Musical Society, and The Carnegie Singers.

Families can enjoy high quality entertainment like face painting, science workshops, pet encounter, Christmas crafts, walkabout characters, graffiti workshops, Christmas wishes and letters to Santa, and the always popular giant snow globe and snow machine.

Lots of fantastic local producers and food providers will be there too, so visitors can get ahead of their Christmas shopping and treat themselves to some delicious food.

At 5pm, the Mayor will oversee the light switch on and the event will come to a close.

Mayor Cllr Beth Dixon, commented, “We’re really looking forward to this year’s Christmas festival and light switch on. There is an excellent programme of entertainment and family fun for everyone. This is always a great event to end the year with when our whole community comes together. Thank you to Cumberland Council for providing free parking in the multi-storey car park for the whole day.

We would encourage everyone to come out to support local businesses and enjoy some amazing live performances from our local talent.”
