Police officers have been tackling drug use in Workington. 

Residents had voiced concerns about people using drugs in the town and Cumbria Police have taken action. 

Illegal substances were located on two people in the town centre this week. 

A spokesperson said: "There is persistent drug use in Workington Town Centre during weekend evenings among people going for nights out. 

"Last night, officers from Workington NPT were out on both plain clothes and high visibility patrols to stop and search individuals suspected of being in possession of drugs.

"A number of searches were conducted and two individuals were found to have illegal drugs in their possession and will be prosecuted."
