Dr Wood was the chief judge for the Young Composer Competition. He praised the high standard and varied entries.

The winner of the Young Musician was pianist Jason Mooney, who performed two pieces by French composers: 'Terminal 2' by Nathalie Bera-Tagrine and 'Impromptu' by Louise Farrenc.

"Jason played with flair and musicianship," said Richard.

The runner up, singer Jackson James, accompanied himself on the guitar in two contemporary pieces.

The winner received a voucher from the Rotary Club and the runner up a voucher donated by Billy Bowman’s Music shop.

The Young Composer competition was won by Jack Moore who composed an excitingly rhythmic piece, 'Bogota Bossa-Nova'.

The competition has been running for 10 years.

"It's very important to celebrate musical development and our young people's skills and talent," said Mr Bennett.

"It's also a great collaboration between the rotary club and school."

In his closing remarks, Mr Bennett paid tribute to Cockermouth music legend and Rotary past president Billy Bowman, who died in late 2022.
