There truly are some amazing coastal villages and towns around Cumbria.

Stretching from the Solway Firth and into the west coast of the county, some of these places truly are some of the most impressive pieces of coastline in the region.

Our area truly has been blessed by some amazing coastline, we wanted to share with you our top five coastal villages and towns.

Silloth is a Victorian seaside town and is well known for its green which sits right in the centre by the coast.

The town borders the Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the flat landscape makes it ideal cycling territory.

There is a good selection of accommodation in Silloth from hotels to the highly rated Stanwix Holiday Park.

This town is located between Maryport and Silloth in a Designated Area of Outstanding Beauty.

It has a long sandy beach, with fine views across the Solway Estuary to the mountains of Southern Scotland.

The Cumbrian Coastal Way passes through the village, and walkers can enjoy many miles of green sea-banks. Once a Smuggler’s Route ran through the village.

St Bees

St Bees is one of the most popular holiday destinations on the Cumbrian Coast.

The beach has a promenade and visitor facilities and is the start of the Wainwright Coast to Coast Walk to Robin Hood’s Bay.

The RSPB bird reserve on the Head is the only cliff-nesting seabird colony in North West England.

Ravenglass is a coastal hamlet within the Lake District National Park and lies on the estuary of three rivers.

Ravenglass became an important naval base for the Romans in the 2nd century.

A mile or so away is Muncaster Castle, with its splendid gardens.

Fleswick Bay

Fleswick Bay is about a one-mile walk along the cliff top north between St Bees and St Bees Head.

This is the first part of the Coast to Coast Walk, and this stretch of coastline is the only designated Heritage Coast in Cumbria.

An RSPB nature reserve on the headland is home to England’s only colony of Black Guillemots. Puffins, terns and other sea birds can also be studied.
