A WORKINGTON pet boarding facility has provided a safe space for XL Bully owners to bring their dogs, whether it be to board or be let off the lead in a safe and secure space.

Pawprints Pet Boarding, located in High Harrington has said XL Bully dogs are 'more than welcome' at their facility, following government guidelines brought in to restrict the animals from December, 31 2023.

Owner, Charlie Sowerby said: "The main part of the business the boarding kennels, basically XL Bully's are more than welcome just as any other breed, they are welcome to come and stay with us.

"Just an extra couple of extra things we need from the owners when they arrive they need to come with their muzzle, because any time we take them out of the kennel, they will need muzzled as per legislation and we will need a copy of the exemption certificate and the third party insurance which is all part of legislation, but apart from that they are very welcome to come and stay with us while their owners come on holiday."

The business also hires out their dog walking field which has been used at the property for many years to exercise the resident dogs.

It provides a secure facility for XL bully owners to hire and bring their dogs to run around across two acres of land.

Mr Sowerby said: "Once the dog owner has gone in and locked the gate behind them, it then becomes a private place so they are free to unmuzzle their dogs and let them off the lead so they are free to have a good run about.

"We have had a lot of enquiries from XL owners who are looking to or have already exempted their dogs, because obviously without the facility the only exercise the dogs are going to get is a walk on the lead, which given the size and amount of energy these dogs have they do need to let it out."

The business say they have been having a 'couple of phone calls a day' from XL bully owners to use the facility where they can let their dogs off  'safely and without fear of breaking the law'.

Mr Sowerby said: "The field has been a success for general dog owners and it's just proving it's sort of need in the area for XL owners because it's pretty much the only safe place and legitimate place that they can be let off the lead other than in their own back garden."
