IN this edition of nostalgia, we are looking back at old old nightclubs, pubs and bars in our area. Today, we focus on Workington.

Circuit Bar public house:

Circuit Bar in Workington closed in 2014 after 25 years. The Circuit Bar, on Nook Street, was to be turned into three flats. The couple said that trade was hit when the bridges collapsed in Workington following the 2009 floods when people were cut off from the town

Fusion night club:

The club first opened in 1999 and had some big names including Tidy Boys and Clubland in its early days. As business grew, Fusion regularly attracted big name acts such as Basement Jaxx, N-Trance and Sash!

However, June 2008,  the club was closed resulting in 30 staff members losing their jobs. CanDu Entertainment Limited, who had run it for three years, went into administration.

Many people would have always had a little bit of hope that one day it would reopen. However, on May 31 2020, emergency services were called at about after residents reported seeing a large cloud of black smoke in the area of the Fusion Nightclub on Ladies' Walk in Workington.

Passions nightclub:

Passions was part of the Washington Central Hotel complex, in Workington town centre. It has been closed for over 10 years now.

The Vine Bar:

The Vine Bar, closed in February 2016 for refurbishment, and started trading as The Gaslight Bar & Bistro.

Yankees Bar:

The pub opened in 1986 after Glenys and Brian Walker converted a terraced house and was named after Brian's grandfather, who was known as Yankee Walker.

Yankees closed in 2018.

Level 2:

Level 2 was Hogs and Heffers for a time and changed to Bart’s in 2016.
