As we see Spring begin to blossom, the beautiful Lake District scenery comes to life. The peaks and fields are perfect for taking your fur-baby on an adventure.

Here is a list of the best routes to walk your dog in the Lakes, according to Sally's Cottages.

Sally’s Cottages is an award-winning business, which boasts over 900 self-catering properties throughout Cumbria, including over 500 dog-friendly cottages to rent. They put together a list of route suggestions for holidaymakers who were looking to bring their dog with them.

The Derwentwater Circuit in Keswick is a 10 mile route.

Times and Star:

Starting at the National Trust Shop, this scenic walk takes you along the shoreline of Derwentwater lake and dips into ancient woodland before crossing a wooden footbridge over a ghyll. The route is mostly flat and finishes at Portinscale village.

 

The walk around Dodd Wood and Dodd Fell is a circular route over 5 miles.

Starting and finishing at the car park, this walk takes you through the magical Dodd Wood, a wildlife hotspot.

The path is easy to follow and sees some steep inclines towards the summit as well as some breath -taking views.

 

A circular walk around Ennerdale Water follows a 7.5 mile route.

Described as ‘slightly more wild and rugged’ this lengthy walk starts and finishes at Bleach Green Car Park.

The circuit follows the lake on a clear track, with relatively easy terrain, and a bit of scrambling along the south shore.

 

The route from Patterdale to Silver Point covers 7 miles.

The walk starts at the White Lion pub in Patterdale, a small village south of Ullswater.

Described as a ‘moderately easy walk’ the circuit takes you through woodlands and along the southern shoreline of Lake Ullswater, before ending with a pint back at the pub.

 

This circular route at Thirlmere spans 5 miles.

Thirlmere is a peaceful valley located a short drive from Keswick, known for its large reservoir and magnificent views.

Starting and finishing at Legburthwaite car park, the route follows the shoreline of the reservoir.

Described as ‘moderately easy’, this ‘slightly steep’ walk also provides woodland for off-lead exploration.
