A DRIVER’S wing mirror was smashed by a group of drunk males who started kicking and punching his car.

Taylor Kane, 19, was one of the four ‘rowdy’ and ‘drunk’ males who came across the victim in Maryport town centre in the early hours of August 13, Workington Magistrates’ Court heard.

Prosecutor Pamela Fee said the victim was returning to his car when one of the males started shouting, ‘you long-haired f*****.’

The victim ignored them and got into the car. The males then started punching and kicking the vehicle. The victim said he saw Kane damage a wing mirror, which smashed.

Police were contacted and identified Kane. The damage to the wing mirror cost £300 to repair.

Kane, of Mulgrew Close, Maryport, pleaded guilty to criminal damage under £5,000.

John Cooper, defending, said: “Mr Kane has not really told me who was there. I don’t think he was the ringleader in this. He was the only one recognised by the occupants of the car. It’s a guilty plea at the earliest opportunity.”

Magistrates fined Kane £113 and ordered him to pay £300 in compensation to the victim. The defendant must also pay £85 costs and a £45 victim surcharge.
