PLANS have been submitted for a bottled gas plant on the outskirts of Workington, as a company aims to relocate its operations in West Cumbria.

Planning permission has been submitted for the 'use of land as a storage and distribution centre for bottled gas together with the siting of two single storey prefabricated modular cabins for administrative use, the siting of one liquid nitrogen tank, new access road arrangement, associated parking, lighting, landscaping and engineering works' at Discovery Park, Lilyhall last month.

The plans have been submitted for the relocation of the site due to its current base being situated on the proposed development site for the new Industrial Solutions Hub building on the Leconfield Industrial Estate, Cleator Moor.

Documents supporting the application said: "BOC have been based at Leconfield Industrial Estate since 2017 where their operation is responsible for the supply of cylinder gases and liquid nitrogen to Sellafield nuclear site and for other industrial requirements.

"There are no direct sales to the public.

"The proposals seek to relocate their current operations to the proposed site at Discovery Park, Lillyhall to facilitate delivery of the CMIQ business cluster and to ensure their business is not detrimentally affected."
