A MAN who had three ounces of cannabis in a JD Sports bag at his home refused to give the name of his supplier to police.

Officers carried out a search under the Misuse of Drugs Act at the home of Gary Alderson, 53, on December 13 last year, Workington Magistrates’ Court heard.

Pamela Fee, prosecuting, said a quantity of cannabis was found in a tub in a JD Sports bag in the kitchen of the Maryport property.

During police interview, Alderson denied being involved in the supply of drugs. He said it was in his address for his own personal use. Money was located in his house but he said it was his daughter’s.

Alderson said it was around 3oz of the drug worth £300. He wouldn’t give the name of his supplier.

John Cooper, defending, said: “December last year, police carry out some enquiries. There was suspicion of something else.

“It’s a guilty plea. It’s under five years since he was last before the court.”

Alderson, of Buttermere Road, Maryport, pleaded guilty to possessing a Class B drug – cannabis.

He was fined £80 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £32 victim surcharge.
