Cumbrian cricket bosses have issued a statement amid discussions over further changes to the structure of parts of the game in the county.

It follows talk of certain Cumbrian clubs seeking to join the Northern Pyramid Structure.

This summer the Cumbria Cricket League integrated with the Eden Valley League.

More developments could now be on the cards involving the Northern Pyramid – a structure which now comprises the Northern League, Westmorland League and Preston-based Palace Shield.

Cumbria Premier League champions Carlisle moved to the Northern League in 2025, following certain other Cumbrian clubs, with suggestions that others could also now look to take a similar route.

Further talks over a future “partnership” involving the Cumbria Cricket League and the Northern Pyramid are ongoing.

A statement on behalf of the Cumbria Cricket League management committee said: “The Cumbria Cricket League has had  a successful integration with the Eden Valley League for the 2025 season.

“This has not only opened the door for clubs in the EVCL to aspire to play Premier Division cricket in Cumbria but also for CCL teams to test themselves against EVCL teams in Division 1 North.

“Building on this success an exciting opportunity is developing between the CCL and the Northern Pyramid structure which incorporates the Westmorland League, the Palace Shield League and the Northern League.

“Talks are ongoing to develop a future partnership which would hopefully allow aspirational clubs in the Cumbria Cricket Premier Division to compete in the Northern Pyramid structure.

“These talks have so far been very positive and another round of discussions are planned towards the end of July.”
