Keswick School featured in the final episode of smash-hit BBC drama The A Word .

The second series of the highly-acclaimed show – filmed in Cumbria – ended its six-part run last week.

And a large chunk of the final episode was filmed at Keswick School.

The school had remained tight-lipped about the filming ahead of the episode being broadcast, so it came as a shock for many Cumbrian fans when they spotted the well-known school on their screens.

The A Word follows the Hughes and Scott family and how members cope when youngest member Joe is diagnosed with autism.

In the second series, which has been shown over six weeks, the story picks up two years on. Joe, played by Max Vento , is now seven.

The series stars former Dr Who Christopher Eccleston, Line of Duty’s Lee Ingleby, Morven Christie, Greg McHugh , Vinette Robinson and Molly Wright .

Thirlmere was one of the county locations used for filming earlier this year.

Runners from local clubs became extras during filming of a fictional fell race.

The series has been praised for the way it has shone the spotlight on austism and the issues that the condition brings.

Nobody at Keswick School was available for comment.
