Our destiny is still in our own hands, admitted Workington Town director of rugby Les Ashe.

Town go into the last home game of the regular League One season tomorrow, welcoming London Skolars to Derwent Park, kick-off 3pm.

And they are well aware that they need a win to secure their place in the play-offs after losing last weekend at Newcastle Thunder.

“Obviously, we had a setback at Newcastle last week and that wasn’t ideal but their coach [Jason Payne] also said that it was the best they had played all season,” said Ashe.

“It was disappointing for us as a group because our destiny was in our hands at that point.

"And it still is to a certain extent, but we will also have to keep an eye on other results.”

But Ashe is determined that they cannot rely on other people, they have to go out and look after their own performances.

And he warned London Skolars would not be a pushover and that Town would have to be on their guard.

“At this stage, we can only deal with our own fixtures and go for the points,” added Ashe.

“But London scored 70-odd points against Hemel last week, and not many teams have done that.

“They will come up here relaxed and with no pressure on them so we have to be wary.

“And with Jermaine Coleman pulling the strings, they can be dangerous.

“In this league, you can’t underestimate everyone and London have turned us over in the past I can remember them beating us back in 2007.

"So, we will definitely not be taking everyone for granted.”

Town are currently in fourth place ahead of this weekend’s fixtures with the chasing pack breathing down their necks.

After Skolars, there is just one more game of the regular season to go, as they travel to Doncaster.
