Scott McAvoy has been called-up again to help out Whitehaven in their latest injury crisis.

The popular forward, who announced his retirement at the end of last season, is now a member of Carl Forster’s coaching staff.

But he has been included in the squad, which is only 17-strong, for Sunday’s home game against London Skolars.

McAvoy has been keeping fit this season, playing for his old club Hensingham in the Iggesund Cumberland ARL but did turn out for Haven in a recent League One game at West Wales.

Already operating with a very small squad, Whitehaven will definitely be without Papua New Guinea duo Jessie Joe Parker and Dion Aiye for the clash at the Recreation Ground.

There’s also a doubt over prop Kris Coward who has been sidelined with an abscess on his elbow which continues to be a concern.

Parker (knee) and Aiye (bicep) both had to come off during the second half of Haven’s outstanding last-gasp victory at Derwent Park on Sunday.

They will not be able to resume this weekend but will be hoping to be back in action for the follow-up home game against Newcastle Thunder – although that might be optimistic.

James Tilley returns to the squad after missing the derby through new work commitments and Lewis Brown, another who had to retire against Town, has been declared fit to play.

McAvoy had rounded-off his return in Wales with a late try during a 66-6 win for the west Cumbrians.

"I had promised Scott that I would never ask him to put his boots back on, but I have to be honest and say I did drop a few hints that week," said Forster.

"He looked as if he had never been away and we know that Scott will do a very good job for us if he’s pressed into service again."

The Haven squad is: Burns, Taylor, Thompson, Phillips, Shackley, Tilley, Forster, Holliday, Abram, Green, Coward, Brown, Howarth, Mossop, Eaves, Cooper, McAvoy.
