The Zebras played against Workington Finches to support local charity Jack’s Journey, raising £200 on the day.
The event was a huge success with a great crowd heading to the Ellis Sports Ground for the entertaining encounter.
It was all played in good spirits with Finches’ head coach Kevin O’Neil deciding on the boots and mitts for the Zebras players to even up the game.
Organisers Josie Ross and Mark Murphy also thanked referee Robbie Skelton for giving up his free time, and wearing a Santa suit, to help make the game run smoothly.
After the game, there was also entertainment from The Buyers Club, who also made a sizeable donation to charity box, along with a raffle.
Organisers added: “We are thankful to everyone involved who helped and turned up to support the day.
“We will be looking to make it an annual event after the success of this year.”
Jack’s Journey was set up by the family of Flimby toddler Jack Gibson to support families with sick children.
It provides financial support to help cover the cost of accessing treatment, including accommodation near hospitals, and is preparing to buy a static caravan to enable families of sick children to have free holidays.
Workington RUFC also called for continued support from the public at the club and, if anyone is interested in playing rugby after watching the charity game, please check out the club’s Facebook pages to get involved.
There are both men and women’s teams, alongside a youth section.
