Workington Comets will not surrender their unbeaten home record without a fight when table-toppers Edinburgh come calling tomorrow night (7pm start), says club owner Laura Morgan.

Comets are the only Premier League team not to have lost at home this season and with only the Monarchs' visit left, Morgan is determined her side will not be giving anything away to the team led by former Workington rider Craig Cook.

She said: "I'm looking forward to it and I can imagine everybody from riders to management, staff to supporters will be feeling anxious, but that's great.

"We don't want to let go of of this unbeaten home record for anybody, especially not Edinburgh.

"Seeing people like Ricky Wells and Kenneth Hansen up against Craig Cook is going to be amazing.

"Craig still wants to come to Workington and take the track record.

"It's far from a case of nothing to play for, it's the last meeting of the season and we want to go out with a fantastic meeting and a bang.

"It's often our biggest gate and is almost like a local derby so we have to win it."

Morgan also reflected on a landmark weekend for the club, which saw them secure their first and only away points of the season, attract more than 100 fans to a meeting about the club's future and snatch victory from the jaws of defeat against Glasgow.

"Nailing our first away points, although very late, was a relief," she said.

"The turnout for the meeting just absolutely blew me away, I had no idea there would be so many supporters there.

"People had thought about what they wanted to say and were really passionate about it.

"I came away with no doubt that people do want speedway in the town.

"I really think next year will be a telling one for Workington.

"Saturday again was a brilliant meeting and we all knew it was going to be difficult but there was no doubt in the boys heads at the start of the meeting that we were going to win it."

The Comets owner also lavished praise on star Wells, who finished runner-up to Ulrich Ostergaard in the Premier League Riders' Championship at Sheffield on Sunday.

She said: "To do what he did and beat the riders he did was phenomenal, he made everybody at Workington proud.

"Beyond any shadow of a doubt this season, Ricky has shown he is a No1.

"It's crept up on him and I don't think the guy realises how good he is.

"Would I have Ricky in my team next year? Yes I would!"

Meanwhile, young Comet David Morgan, who has been named as a No8 in recent weeks, has been drafted into the British Under-19 Championship at Berwick tomorrow.

Northside Stars will also take on Workington Meteors after tomorrow night's Comets home meeting.
