Workington Town winger Brett Carter is enjoying life in the first-team after a spell on the sidelines while the club used players from Wigan Warriors on dual-registration.

Carter has made just 14 appearances for Town so far this season but has scored three tries in his last three games, including a first-half touch down against Hunslet Hawks at the weekend.

He also bagged a brace when Town played the Hawks in their final regular season game at South Leeds Stadium a fortnight ago.

“Dual-registration hasn’t been good for me personally,” Carter said. “But it’s nice to be back in the side and the lads are doing really well.

“I must like playing against Hunslet after scoring against them. It was a good game at the weekend but a lot tougher than when we last played them.

“We’ve won five in a row and we’re all really enjoying it and, hopefully, our run can continue.”

Town comfortably won their league fixture three weeks ago but were made to fight for their Super 8s win over the Hawks in a hard-fought 22-18 victory.

Town led 22-6 at half-time but let Hunslet back into the game with two tries from Richie Barnett but managed to hang on to record their fifth consecutive victory.

“We took our foot off the pedal and they got back into the game,” Carter continued. “We took our chances and got a bit of a lead.

“We said at half-time we had to carry on doing what we were doing and not let them score or put more points on the board.

“But we didn’t do that and we made it a lot harder for ourselves than we should have done.”

Town welcome Featherstone to Zebra Claims Stadium on Sunday and Carter hopes that he and his team-mates have learned from last week’s close-run victory.

“We hope to go into every game as strong as we can,” he continued. “We will be more alert going into this weekend’s game against Featherstone.

“We can’t take our feet off again like that.”
