Farsley Celtic manager Adam Lakeland admitted he has been “baffled” by Workington’s struggles after his side beat Reds 2-0 on Tuesday night.
Speaking to Farsley’s official website following his team’s victory at Throstle Nest, Lakeland said he was surprised second-bottom Reds had not been able to climb away from trouble after a number of successful seasons in the Evo-Stik Premier Division.
“They were a real test, as they were when we went up there earlier in the season,” Lakeland said.
“I watched them a couple of weeks ago against Witton and they were the better team until they had a men sent off and missed a couple of chances, then the second half was a difficult game for them.
“They’re a good side but they’re running out of games.
“I’m surprised they’re not out of it yet because I think they’ve got some good players.”
The Celtic boss also singled out tricky forward Conor Tinnion as one of the best players in the league.
He added: “He’s got so much ability.”
Goals from Paul Walker and Jimmy Spencer were enough to condemn Reds to a third defeat in a row and their fifth in their last six games as they continue to trail fourth-bottom Stafford Rangers by six points.
Reds are set to host North Ferriby United at Borough Park on Saturday (3pm ko) looking to get back to winning ways.
