St Benedict's cemented their status as runaway Cumbria League leaders as they moved 10 points clear at the top of the table.

Bennie’s had trailed Cockermouth for much of the season but a win on the same weekend that Cockermouth slipped up allowed them to hit the top spot and victory in their game in hand at the weekend put them on 74 points.

They travelled to struggling Furness, who put up an almighty struggle but eventually succumbed to a 41-29 home defeat.

The only other game played on what was supposed to be a weekend off for the division saw Workington welcome another bottom-four side in Carlisle Crusaders and run out 32-5 winners.

Cockermouth remain second on 64 points, with Upper Eden third and Wigton fourth as both sides sit on 61 points and Whitehaven in fifth on 60 points.

Saturday fixtures (2.15pm kick-off): Cockermouth v Silloth, Furness v Millom, Hawcoat Park v Windermere, St Benedict’s v Carlisle Crusaders, Whitehaven v Egremont, Wigton v Creighton, Workington v Upper Eden.
