Cockermouth capitalised on a cancelled game for Cumbria Division One leaders St Benedict’s to claw back five points in the title race.

The Wasps hosted Silloth and ran out dominant 55-0 winners against the strugglers to halve Bennie’s 10-point lead.

The tries came courtesy of Peter Wood, Will Gate and James Sewell with a brace of tries each, with others scores from Ben Irving, Oliver Gray and Mark Watson, who also added a conversion to Matty Wilson’s tally of four.

The leaders do now have a game in hand on the chasing pack after their home game against Carlisle Crusaders was called off due to the visitors being unable to raise a team.

They remain five points clear of their fellow challengers.

Whitehaven welcomed Egremont to the Playground and won 27-15 to move up to fourth place in the table, jumping over Upper Eden who lost 25-21 at Workington to drop into fifth.

Millom went to Furness, who are below them in the table, and were stunned in a heavy 43-0 defeat, while Wigton welcomed bottom side Creighton and were 79-0 winners

Mid-table side Hawcoat Park entertained Windermere, who gave them a run for their money but eventually lost out 22-10 as Rodney Odondi helped himself to a pair of tries.
