Workington Town boss Chris Thorman said he saw plenty of positives come out of their 50-16 victory over London Skolars - but he was still left disappointed.

Town hit back after a shaky start to the game to build a commanding lead over their visitors from the capital, with Brad Holroyd bagging a hat-trick on his home debut at Derwent Park.

But Thorman said the start from his side was simply not good enough – and something they had to improve if they wanted to do well in League 1.

“I’ve probably never been as disappointed as I am now after a 50-point win,” admitted Thorman after the game.

“I’m disappointed with our start and the boys know why. Although I suppose it is a good sign that they knew why.

“There were also a lot of highlights and a lot of good tries scored but our discipline in the first 20 minutes was disappointing.

“The positive was that we turned things around quite quickly in the first half with four back-to-back tries by doing the right things with the ball.

“In the end it was a bit of a mixed bag.”

Town went 6-0 down in the opening stages but then ran in nine tries to seal the victory.

As well as Holroyd’s hat-trick there was a brace for Alex Young and more tries across the park.

“Brad is a very good player and he will score a lot of tries this year,” added Thorman.

“And it’s not just scoring tries, it’s the other work that he does. Alex Young got two as well. It is the yardage they come up with, their carries and their work in the back field.”
