WORKINGTON Town came away with a great result in their recent derby game.
Workington took on their neighbours, Whitehaven Rugby League, away on Sunday, July 20.
The club and their fans were delighted with the 8-22 defeat against their rivals.
Almost 1,500 fans were in attendance at the game over the weekend.
Head coach Jonty Gorley said: "We're pleased, it was a great result. There was a good crowd against a decent side, so it's always good to get a win.
"Things have been going alright this season for Town; we've had a couple of blips where we've lost games from not being good ourselves.
"We lost two games on the trot, after winning six. We've won our last two games and got two good wins, Midlands at home, we were flying, and Whitehaven away.
"They've only been beaten once at home in the league, so it was good to get a win there as well.
"It was brilliant to beat Whitehaven at their home ground in a derby game, especially through there; it was just good to put it to bed once at for all.
"Obviously, we're in that league position for a reason, and we're playing well. I think the last time we've played them in the Ike and the league, they were good and deserved to win in the Ike.
"I really do think in the league game at home when we were beating them and they scored a try, they were in total control, and there were bad conditions again, like it was on Sunday when we were in total control and they got a try again.
"I think it was a convincing win, yes, they're rebuilding and they've got some lads who were playing in the community game last year.
"But they've also had a bunch of good games, so they're doing alright.
"For us to get a win, bearing in mind we're a new side as well, and I've got a few community lads playing for me, let's not forget that. So I think my squad's done really well this year."
