The Workington GT Tyres Comets faced a challenging weekend, suffering defeats against Scunthorpe and Plymouth but managing to secure an aggregate point through resilience.

In the league encounters, the Comets faced off against the Scorpions and the Gladiators.

The match at Scunthorpe ended with a score of fifty-eight to thirty-two, while the following day saw them lose fifty-two to thirty-seven at Plymouth.

Despite the heavy loss in Scunthorpe, the Comets showed commendable spirit, particularly in the latter stages of the meeting.

After falling behind thirty-two to ten after just seven heats, a late rally led by skipper Troy Batchelor and Antti Vuolas saw them combine for a crucial five-one in heat fifteen.

This effort levelled the overall score across both legs, allowing the Comets to secure a bonus point with a seven-two victory in the Super Heat.

Unfortunately, the team had to contend with the loss of Jye Etheridge, who was withdrawn following a heavy crash.

Jacob Hook managed the only other race win for Workington, while Connor Coles and Fraser Bowes struggled to make an impact.

In Plymouth, the Comets aimed to defend a twelve-point aggregate lead but were quickly on the back foot.

The Gladiators established a commanding forty to twenty lead after ten heats.

Tate Zischke was the only Comet to secure race wins early on, impressively overtaking seven-time British Champion Scott Nicholls.

Although the Comets improved in the second half, the gap proved too wide to close.

The final five heats showcased Workington's best performance of the night, preventing the Gladiators from gaining further advantages.

With Fraser Bowes racing in Poland, the Comets utilised rider replacement and brought in Ben Morley and Ben Trigger as guests.

However, both managed only two points.

Jacob Hook provided solid support, contributing significantly alongside Batchelor and Zischke.

Reflecting on the weekend, team boss James Denham expressed disappointment but acknowledged the character shown in the comeback at Scunthorpe.

He emphasised the need to regroup ahead of next weekend's fixtures against Glasgow away and Oxford at home.

Denham remains hopeful that the team will return to full strength and regain its form on familiar tracks.
