A Workington Reds flag was spotted in Perth as England captain Ben Stokes sparkled on a manic first day of The Ashes 2025.

The West Cumbrian flag was spotted amongst a sea of England flags as the latest Ashes series got underway at the Optus Stadium in Perth.

The flag was visible on the TNT Sports broadcast of the first day of the first test as Bryden Carse caught Travis Head for Ben Stokes' first wicket.

England's stellar recovery in the field came on a breakneck first day which saw the Stokes' side all out for 172 in just under 33 overs.

However, the former Cockermouth Cricket Club man led England's fightback, taking five wickets in total to leave Australia 123 for nine at the close of play on the first day.

Speaking to TNT Sports at stumps on the first day, Carse called the former Cumbrian cricketer a 'game-changer'.

He said: "He's amazing. His character, his resilience is everything this team strives to be. A game-changing spell from him in that session."
