The thrilling 4-2 victory over league champions Workington Cons Club started as five-time county champion Rob Sim delivered a break of 78 to defeat Cons’ veteran Julian Plaza 84-0 and put the Golf Club 1-0 up.
Frame two was more scrappy as Cons’ two-time county champion Alan Moore took on Mark Carruthers. Moore eventually won the frame 72-31 to a tie.
The third frame proved to be the longest of the night with Cons’ Mike Park and Mark Brasted adopting a tactical approach. Into the last part of the frame, it was Brasted who started to look the more confident and he went on to win 83-36.
The Golf Club’s Mark Cowen potted well but never quite managed to gain a decent lead.
This gave Cons’ Ryan Barker some hope, as Cowen potted the final blue, he needed just the pink for victory. Refusing it in favour of a safety shot left Barker with a long pot on the pink.
The Cons’ cueist potted it but gained perfect position on the black which he duly slotted home for a 51-41 Cons win.
At 2-2, the Golf Club’s Ian Fulton started frame three with a couple of good pots and went on to win 58-55.
The final frame of the match was a tale of missed opportunities.
Cons’ Richard McCarthy was offered the better chances but failed to capitalise and the Golf Club’s Phil Sorfleet hung on and delivered a 22 clearance to take the frame 47-41, match and the title.
