Workington Reds striker Nathan Waterston says he's confident he can juggle both his football and cricket commitments and believes he's getting the best of both worlds.

The 19-year-old signed for Reds this summer, but has been a regular for Furness CC during the cricket season.

Waterston made his first league start for Reds last month against Sutton Coldfield and impressed from the bench against Warrington in the FA Cup last weekend.

He is a batsman for Furness and scored 66 runs in his most recent match for the club which was a 142-run victory over Keswick.

He said: "At the moment I will try to juggle both. The football is massive at the moment and hopefully we'll have a good season.

"I can play cricket through the summer to try and keep fit for the football season.

"I enjoy football and cricket and I'm able to get a season for each club. It's good to play at a high level and it's a good achievement.

"I'll keep going and see where it either one takes me.

"At some point it might come down to having to choose between them, but at the moment I'm going to try and concentrate on both.

"It's nice to be playing both and I'll try to play both for as long as I can."

The former Carlisle youth player was at Penrith AFC last season before he was snapped up by Reds during the summer.

Following the recent departure of Gareth Arnison, he is now competing with Tom Kilifin and Scott Allison for a starting berth.

The teenager has made 10 league and nine cup appearances for Furness this season.

His best knock of the season came against Wigton in the league back in May when he hit 79 runs, more than any other batsman who played that day.

He added: "I'm very pleased with my contribution and it's nice to get some minutes under my belt and hopefully I can break into the side.

"The start against Sutton Coldfield was brilliant. I missed a few games at the start of the season due to holiday, but it was great to get a start.

"The lads have been really nice and hopefully we can get a good run in the FA Cup and push for promotion in the league."

"When I found out after the first couple of games that they wanted me to sign I was over the moon.

"To be playing for one of the biggest clubs in Cumbria is great and it makes me and my family very proud."
