A WORKINGTON man has appeared in court accused of historical sexual offences, including two counts of raping a 13-year-old girl.

Owen Carr, 35, appeared at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court yesterday (Wednesday, September 30) via video link from HMP Durham.

Carr, formerly of Rowe Terrace, Workington, spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth.

He is accused of two counts of raping a 13-year-old girl and one count of assaulting a 13-year-old girl by penetration. Carr is also accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl.

All of the alleged offences are said to have taken place between 2010 and 2011.

Prosecutor George Shelley described the case as a “historic matter” and said the alleged victim is now an adult.

District Judge Philip Holden told Carr: “I am going to send your case for a plea and trial preparation hearing.”

Carr is due to appear at Carlisle Crown Court on October 28, 2026.

Judge Holden told Carr that he would be “granted technical bail on these matters”.

The bail conditions include that Carr must not contact the alleged victim or anyone under the age of 18.
