ARMED Forces Day will return to Workington for the fourteenth year after growing substantially since its first event.

Armed Forces day will return to Workington on Saturday, June 24 to 'celebrate' everything about the armed forces.

Starting at 10am for meet and greet , the parade leaves Pow Street at 11am marches to Vulcans Park for a drum head service led by Rev Frankie Ward.

This year the parade will be marching behind the Isle of Cumbrae RBLS pipe band with  parade marshal Sgt Ross Murphy of the Duke of Lancaster's regiment.

The team has grown over the years from when Pat and Lesley first started it thinking they were just going to organise a party, on National Armed Forces Day.

Organiser Lesley Jackson said: "Our team are great at organising fundraising events, including our monthly quiz night, raffles, lotto bingo fund raising nights, afternoon tea parties... all events can be seen on our Facebook page; Workington Royal British Legion.

"We are grateful for all donations we receive to help us raise the support we need, including a donation of £300 from the town council.

"Armed forces day is about celebrating our armed forces and what they have contributed and still contribute to the society we live in.

"It is a day where we encourage the people to engage with our armed forces whether they be veterans, serving personnel or our forces of the future.

"In all of our previous years it has been an absolute privilege to witness the interaction between the public and our armed forces personnel."
